I am sadden today because I finished my jar of Green Tomato Chow Chow. I know, I had never heard of it either but...once you try it all other relishes go out the window. Every year a dear friend of mine puts some up and shares it with us, I try to make the jar last and I did pretty good with this one but...it is now gone. I will have to go to her home with my empty canning jar in my hands along with any book I have borrowed recently and try to get another jar.
It is seriously tasty stuff. I think I put it on just about everything when you let me have last year's jar. Yum.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I bet if you ask nice she'd let you help/teach you how next year. If only to get out of being your green tomato crack supplier.
Looks delicious. I'm positive, I've never had Green Tomato Chow2. Combo, sweet, sour? I do love pickled vegetables tho my favorite is Indian lime pickle.
ReplyDeleteIt is sweet and vinegary at the same time. I have to admit I was afraid to try it the first time and gave the small jar to J. This year I tasted it and I am hooked. I put it on hot dogs, crackers and yesterday I used the last little bit to put into some tartar sauce I was making. When we were at her house last year on Christmas eve she was sending us back with a second jar and I forgot it...dern!
ReplyDeleteI bet she would teach me how to make it, she is a honest to goodness great southern home cook! There is nothing better than dinner at her house.
Oh, chow chow! I tried some in the mountains a few years ago and loved it. This stuff looks dlish! I'm so sorry it's all gone. :-(
ReplyDeleteWelcome JuJu! It is wonderful and I may find myself down at Kit's house sooner than later! Perhaps I can trade her some wine for somemore Chow Chow!
