Random Thursday

I suspect that I am supposed to be actually doing something but instead I find myself killing time so far today.

Last night my husbands company had their awards ceremony followed by fun, food and plenty of drink!  If you live down here in Charleston you may have had the occasion to experience Mrs. Hamby's catering and not to be disappointed as they did the food for last nights event (I believe the same as the past few years).  There was not a single thing I ate (and I must admit I tried a lot of food last night) that was not delicious.  Now my favorite thing that Ms. Hamby makes is her sandwiches (I assume that there is really a Ms. Hamby) and that is the shrimp salad.  I ate a ton of food before I finally found them (or rather Michael found them for me knowing that they are my fav) and I was not let let down.  Apparently one of the secrets to these fabulous little morsels is the fact that they are on plain old ordinary Piggly Wiggly white bread with the crusts cut off.  I have tried to replicate them but have had no success!

I have two observations from last evening and perhaps you can answer these questions for me.  Why are most female real estate agents blond (there cannot be that many real blonds who choose the same profession) and why can folks not dress to the desired dress code?  I am not talking about the people who just came from a closing...I am talking about the folks that chose that scanty dress to attend an event labeled Cowboy Casual.  Does putting boots on with your short, flimsy attire meet the dress code and what is with the stripper shoes?  Probably more than 2 questions but..what the heck.

So while I was killing time this morning I decided to go through who Facebook thinks I should be friends with.  Surely I do not look as old as many of the folks I went to high school with...

We are going to a friend's house for the Super Bowl Sunday and I am thinking about what we should bring.  In the past we have brought a variety of stuff...not all of it healthy but that is part of the day.  Some of the goodies we brought have been Turkey and Black Bean Chili, Meatballs in sauce, a gigantic hero sandwich with tomatoes from the Vegetable Bin (I didn't even get a taste of that one) and Artichoke Dip.  I would call the hostess to see what we should bring but I have two dilemmas.  The first is I am not sure she knows folks are coming over and the second being...she does not cook.  It is not that she does know how to, she chooses not to and I respect her for that!  That leaves her often not particularly helpful on the food end.  I am considering the Shrimp Wontons and goodness knows what else.

What are you doing for Super Bowl Sunday and GO GIANTS!

  1. Miss Hamby’s Shrimp Salad

21/2 lbs. shrimp, peeled, deveined, cooked and coarsely chopped
    21/2 tsp. salt
    2 tbs. lemon juice
    1/2 teaspoon minced onions
    1 cup chopped celery
    1/2 teaspoon celery seeds
1 teaspoon hot sauce, such as Tabasco
1 cup mayonnaise (or just enough to bind the mixture)

Combine shrimp, salt and lemon juice. Add onions, celery, celery seeds, hot sauce and mayonnaise. Serve as a salad or use mixture to make shrimp salad sandwiches. Makes 3 cups of salad.
